A tuned version was first planned as Kaiser Knuckle EX, almost unchanged apart from lowering the difficulty of the CPU matches, but it went down so badly in location testing that it was rejected, and it was reworked and announced again as Dankuga.
An updated version of Kaiser Knuckle was planned to be released in December 1994 as , but it was later discontinued; the prototype itself was dumped onto the Internet as a ROM and was later included with Taito Egret II Mini console released in 2022.
Bugs occasionally stop the game (beating the CPU Azteca can, rarely, freeze it), but it had been built to something close to completion and was location-tested at Taito's own arcades, and because the company never released it for reasons of its own it is, quite literally, a "phantom" fighting game.
